Schedule 2021-2022
Acrobatic Gymnastics Competitive Program
Acrobatic gymnastics combines dance, gymnastics, skills , and synchronization. Engaging choreography and brilliant attire are also a part of the sport. The competitors tell a story with their performances, all while capturing the audience’s attention with thrilling tempo and graceful balance skills. The magnificent performances could hardly be accomplished without cooperative effort and mentoring among partners.
There are five events incorporated within the acrobatic gymnastics discipline. The events are
women’s pair, men’s pair, mixed pair, women’s group (3), and men’s group (4). Each pair/group performs routines featuring gymnastics tumbling skills, partner balances, and tempo skills. Balance skills highlight the athletes’ strength and flexibility through pyramids and static positions of the top and middle. Dynamic skills involve somersaulting and twisting with landings on the floor or catches by a bottom partner.
Athletes of varying heights, weights, and body types are needed for acrobatic gymnastics. Smaller, more flexible athletes are needed as tops, while taller and stronger athletes are ideal for base positions.
Acrobatic Gymnastics draws its basic elements that shape the sport's physical expression from the same source as other gymnastics disciplines. Choreography, agility, balance, strength, grace!

NCATA (National Collegiate Acrobatics & Tumbling Association)
History , Mission & Vision Mission
In September 2010, USA Gymnastics and the National Collegiate Acrobatics and Tumbling Association (NCATA), formerly known as the National Collegiate Stunts and Tumbling Association, announced that USA Gymnastics would sanction NCATA events. NCATA has the goal of establishing itself as a sport within the NCAA framework. Currently, there are 31 universities in 18 states that offer this collegiate varsity sport. This has the potential to grow into a much larger opportunities to participate
USA Gymnastics wants to make sure our athletes at the USA Gyms are aware of the existing opportunities to participate.
You can continue to track Acrobatics and Tumbling’s progress at
https://usagym.org/pages/home/college/atinfo.html
The all-female acrobatics and tumbling teams are recognized an treated as fully sponsored varsity sports at their respective institution and are in full compliance with NCAA rules and regulations. The teams range in size, with a maximum of 40 women. There are 28 spots on the game day roster. Scholarships are available at D1 and D2 institutions.
The purpose of an acrobatics and tumbling team is to represent a university six to eight times each season in a head-to-head competitive format against other collegiate acrobatics and tumbling teams. An NCATA meet includes six events-compulsory, toss, acro, pyramid, tumbling and a team event. The scoring system includes pre-determined start difficulty values for each skill in each round for consistent scoring by officials. The NCATA’s unique meet format with standardized scoring, officiating, and safety provide clear separation from other related sports or activities
